Overtok gården tidlig i 1780-årene og løste ut sine søsken i 1787 med 663 rdl.
Våren 1772 felte han 2 voksne bjørner i Hesthammerskogen sammen med Jens belgmaker.
Nils skjøt også en bjørn våren 1776 og en bjørn i 1801.
I 1783 fredlyste han Hesthammers skog og utmark for jakt og fiske. Det var blitt gjordt skade der
både før og etter at Nils J. Holst overtok bruken av gården.

I 1807 bestemte Nils Holst at hans 2 eldste sønner skulle ha hver sin halvdel av gården til odel og åsete.
Etter Johan Fredriks død i 1821 trådte yngste sønn i hans sted.
Sønnen Daniel kom i økonomiske vanskeligheter. Han hadde i 1817 lånt 1200 spd. av fogden
Hans Petter Testmann i Vestfossen. Dette Lån måtte Nils Holst skaffe dekning for, og han stilte derfor i
1820 Hesthammer som pant. Samtidig kjøpte Nils en engløkke eller jordpart, kalt Smelden, som var frasolgt Fåsen.

I 1824 solgte Nils Holst et stykke jord av Hesthammer (bruksnr. 2) til søstersønnen Jørgen Larsen Holst for 300 spd.

I 1827 fikk eldste og yngste sønn skjøte på hver sin halvpart av gården, hver for 1500 spd.
Moren fikk opphold. Hun skulle bl.a. årlig ha 5 potter godt norsk brennevin og 8 spd.
Sønene skulle fø 2 kuer og 2 sauer for henne. Ved skiftet etter henne i 1830 ble arvesummen 206 spd.
Blant løsøret nevnes 6 sølvskjeer verd 7 spd. og 3 sølvskjeer verd 1 spd.

Jørgen kom med sin familie til Hesthammer i Hof omlag 1744. Kjøpte Hesthammer 1753 av sin svoger Sogneprest Hammer i Sande for 1000 rdl. Jørgen lånte 700 rdl. av Mads Jansen Klein på Kobberviktangen ved Drammen. Våren 1769 felte Jørgen en vokse n bjørn på Hesthammer. Han kom i skade for å hogge tømmer inne i Torruds skog. Saken kom helt til overretten, som stadfestet underrettens dom, men slik at Holst skulle betale "landnåm av den forøvde skoghogst". Det ble henvist til sognedele av 167 0, deling 1741 og grensegang 1765 og 1768. I juli 1772 ble delet mellom Hesthammer og Søndre Torrud gått opp. Fra Eikern, inn for nordre ende av Hesthammerøya, ble kjennetegn og kors satt i fjell, store steiner og en mengde trær. Delet passerte Fa lch-Aasen eller berget, Falchelien og Øvre eller Nordre Svartkjenn.

Johs. Loug solgte sin part av Nordre Nes i 1745 til moren Thale Trulsdatter for 220 rdl.
Han forpaktet bort Gretteberg i 1747 til Syvert Werner Olsen fra Oppsal.
Han pantsatte Haugestad og Nordre Nes i 1750 til amtsforvalter Brandt for et lån på 300 rdl., i 1753 lånte han 149 rdl. av "sin kjære moder",
i 1760 pantsatte han et smiested, et skruested og en belg til sogneprest Jacob Skjelderup for 29 rdl., og i 1762 lånte Johannes Loug 350 rdl.
som 2. prioritet av kjøpmann Ole Heegaard i Holmestrand.

I 1762 ble Johannes Loug stevnet «for et uskikkelig liv og , levnets forhold». Også forholdet til hjemmet ble
påtalt. Etter Lougs død ble gården i 1763 solgt ved auksjon til Hans Hanssen for 2014 rdl. Herav hadde , Johannes eid den ene halvpart. Den andre halvpart hadde tilhørt Thale Trulsdatter og Tollef Ve.
Løsøret ble solgt ved auksjon for 494 rdl.
Nettoformuen ble 3221/2 rdl.
Et par av arvingene solgte sine parter i 1775 for 260 rdl. til Halvor Torgersen, Mellom Bolstad i Sande. Han var g. m. Thale Johannesdatter Loug fra Haugestad. I 1778 solgte han Nordre Nes med underliggende kvernbruk og fiskevann for 450 rdl. ti l svogeren Nils Jørgensen Holst, ,Hesthammer. Denne solgte igjen s. å. for 550 rdl. til Kristen Kristoffersen.
